FutureFuel Corp. has restarted its 59 million gallon per year biodiesel plant in Batesville, Arkansas after idling the facility since mid-2025. The shutdown was driven by regulatory uncertainty around the 45Z clean fuel production credit and historically high feedstock costs.

Improved market conditions brought production back online in December, including record soybean crops, lower input prices, and better federal tax credit clarity. The company is also diversifying into specialty chemicals and has consolidated all operations at its Batesville facility.

For an industry that has seen multiple producers go offline over the past year, this restart is a notable signal. Conditions in the biodiesel market may be shifting.
